Its no secret that Virgil Abloh finds inspiration from the process of developing new ideas, which is shown through his social media. Influenced by the idea that people are preoccupied with creating a perfect outcome, when this often is an unachievable reality, the new Off-White Pre-Fall collection surrounds the concept of ‘Incompiuto’. Translated to ‘the incomplete’, This collection is influenced by a video created by Alteraztion- an artist collaborative organisation that began in Milan (2004), which displayed the unfinished architecture of Italy.
The collection presents the idea of incomplete designs through Abloh’s garments. With an array of alterations made to each items in-order to reflect the aspiring image, there are sweatshirts with raw edges, ruff hems and distorted typography. The pieces are delicately crafted with intricate attention to detail, many with a small ‘incompiuto’ embroidered on the fabric. Divided into three segments, the collection includes those of backbone, industrial and unfinished.
The unfinished collection, which is soon to be available at YSM, features many oversized to slim fit garments. With the simplest meaning of even when unfinished - it is still a piece of art, many of the clothes highlight their incomplete emblem in a large scale print, reflecting what the 2019 line conveys.
Where as, the Industrial aspect of the release has a collaborative graphic displaying both their signature arrow logo combined with an image of scaffolding. reflectively, displaying buildings under construction gives an insight into the development needed to create the final outcome, whether it be architectural or musical, everything goes through a process. The alternative motif comes in multiple different formats including sweatshirts, hoodies and tees, allowing the buyer to purchase according to their preferred style.
Finally, the backbone section provides the brands take on ‘public television’ through a redesign of their signature emblem. The idea revolves around connecting the dots between advertisements and images influencing our perception of the world. The pieces have a unique and hidden message that has yet to be touched upon by other designers, making it one we at YSM stand behind and a crucial edition the the store.
In the upcoming months, YSM will be stocking the Off-White mens 2019 Pre-Fall collection, offering a number of different garments from the range.
